i was gonna get a HP envy 14, and i wanted to know if upgraded the ram and the hard drive a little bit would ir tun games like wow and guild wars and counter strike smoothly on high settings??? also what kind of discounts do you get on cybermonday with these things? any help is appreciated thanksHP Envy 14 laptop help?
I like the 14" Envy. Good choice, I wish I had that.
4gb of RAM is all you need, don't upgrade to any more.
You SHOULD, however, upgrade the hard drive. Size doesn't matter (unless you have a ton of videos), but speed does. Get a 7200RPM hard drive, at a bare minimum. The 160GB SSD is the best option, if you are willing to cough up the money.
Also, don't forget this coupon!

That's $250 off!
EDIT: To the haters below: HP did good here, they didn't cheap out and put in HD 3000. The 14" Envy has a Radeon 6630 GPU standard, which is, in fact, a real video card with dedicated memory. It's perfectly competent for 1366x768 gaming. Trust me, I have 6620G graphics in my HP, and a REAL 6850 video card in my desktop, and both game great.
Sure, you could get a 17" laptop with better graphics and the same price, or just get a desktop. But then it's no longer mobile. I'm pretty sure the 6630 graphics are better than the graphics in the Xbox 360 anyway, so aside from crazy games like Crysis and Metro, everything will play great.
seriously, the question is a fail. the hard drive makes little difference. counter strike runs on most things and wow uses what you have. if you have 2gb+ ram you should be okay. the one thing that will let you down is your graphics card, or, since you own a laptop, lack of one. this will likely cost more than the laptops worth to change so if you need a (new) graphics card you are better off getting a new laptop. just a word of advice, if you want to game, GET A DESKTOPHP Envy 14 laptop help?
really unless its advertised as a laptop designed for games then its going to be only adequate with the graphics and the smoothness of the gameplay, i googled the laptop but i couldn't find a single envy 14 by its self so you really need to give a little more information.
even if you updated everything it still wouldn't make it capable of playing games seamlessly, your best bet would be to get an alienware, they are a little more expensive but are your best bet for gaming.
Another tip is laptops aren't really designed to be used for games, if you wan't the best game experience possible you would be better off getting a desktop, they are designed to be more heavy duty when it comes to the processing and less worry over overheating.
Im also not sure what games you are talking about but im assuming you are talking about PC games where you have to buy the cd at the store?
