Not all of Sam's answers/points are correct.

For example, the cost per storage capacity in terms of GB the MAC costs FAR MORE than the HP.

I'll give you that customer support for the HP is pretty bad compared to the Apple though.

When you pay for the mac, you are mainly paying for the name and the style.

If being overcharged by DOUBLE what you can get for an HP is your idea of a good laptop, than by all means purchase a mac.
Well, Dell and HP have horrible customer support. Macs HAVE games, but most people aren't satisfied with the games available for Mac:

Macs are great with homework. You can get iWork or Microsoft Office. Both are great. Dell and HP are good for doing homework, but downloading the drivers for printers really irritates me. MacBooks will usually just plug in and print without a problem.

In my opinon, whether it's a Mac or a PC music is the same. Same thing with movies. A mac will probably be better for the storage capacity for all the movies and music.

My answer may seem a bit "against" PCs, but I have had experience with many HP and Dell laptops. The customer support really sucked. I would be on the phone for hours waiting. If your laptop breaks, you can send in your computer to Dell and they will fix it, and send it back a month later with the bill. HP will take your broken computer and send it back "fixed" and it will do the same thing. You can go to the nearest apple store and they will look at it and tell you the problem and take it for however long it takes to fix it. The customer support was my main problem with them (other than battery life and it's speed).Hp Envy 14 vs Hp Dv6t Select Edition Series vs Dell Studio 15 vs Dell Studio XPS 16 vs MacBook Pro 13"?
Since you're in High school, I wouldn't waste your money on a good laptop yet. I would only recommend a Netbook for like $300. It'll essentially do anything except for high-end games.

Don't get a gaming laptop in High school, you'll regret it when you want a working laptop in college, but you've already spent your money on what would then be crap.

If you're filthy rich, then get the XPS 16. If not, then wait 3 years and spend the money you saved from not buying it, and get a laptop which would cost $2500 if you bought it now. Have patience, save thousands of dollars, get better computers when you need them.

Technology will only get better, and cheaper.
Don't go with Dell. Customer service is horrid. They lie to you and hang up on you.

Don't know about HPs and MacBooks... Good Luck!
