You want to do a Clean Install, which is also known as Recovery.
The previous answer discusses how to do a Hard Reset, which is not the same thing as a Clean Install (Recovery).
New HP Laptops have a Recovery Partition, so you do not need the OS cd.

The first thing you should do is backup any important data, such as pictures, music files, favorites, and anything important that you鈥檝e saved since purchasing the computer. All new data will be lost and the system will be returned to factory condition.

Next, you鈥檒l want to unplug any external devices, such as USB printers, cameras or scanners. These devices could interfere with the recovery process.

There are a couple of ways to reach the recovery screen. **The easiest will be to tap the F11 key repeatedly when restarting the PC.** This will take you to a screen to begin the process. Or, once in Windows, you can go to Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt;HP Tools%26gt;HP PC System Recovery.

Follow the onscreen instructions. The process may take an hour or two depending on the size of the hard drive. Once complete, your HP computer should be reverted to the original factory condition.

*edit* Forgot to say that if you are given a choice, choose Restore (Destructive).Clean install windows 7?
Things You'll Need:

* Windows laptop

1. Push the power button until the laptop turns off completely. Wait for all lights to stop flashing.

2. Unplug the power cord and all peripherals connected to the machine. Exercising caution at this time prevents unexpected electric shocks on the user.

3. Turn the PC notebook over and disengage the battery cover in the back. A coin may be used to open the door.

4. Take out the battery pack. Lay it on a safe and clean surface.

5. Press the power button in the front again. Hold it for 60 seconds and release.

6. Install the battery pack back into the laptop and reconnect all cords.

7. Turn PC laptop around and power on. Check on the root of the problem if further operating system or application-related issues remain.

Should give you the brand new OS

Hope this helps
