Why do macs have such a better battery life than PC?

The only reason I would get a mac is for the battery life. 8-10 hours on a macbook pro 15" vs 4-5 hours on a HP Envy 14. Why do macs have so much better battery life? Or do they just lie like with the envy. They said the envy can get up to 8 hours battery life (I got 4 hours 20 minutes). Why do macs have such a better battery life than PC?
It's true that battery figures are often grossly exaggerrated. These figures are usually only achieved by turning down screen brightness or turning off WiFi. On my friend's 15" Macbook Pro, she asked me if it was normal that her Mac only lasted 6 hours as opposed to the 8-9 promised on the website. I said "yes, of course".

The Envy's standard battery life is actually pretty short. The "8 hours" battery life they advertise is achieved by attaching the extended battery (which looks more like an ultra-thin cooling pad than a battery) to the underside of the laptop, in addition to the standard battery.

I don't know why the Macs have such great battery life (6 hours is still really good), but it's not like there aren't any Windows machines with equal or better battery life. Take a gander at the TimelineX series from Acer. They are advertised to run over 8 hours on a single charge with the standard battery, 12 hours with the extended ones.
The MacBook Pro 15" has approximately 6 hours of battery life. The HP Envy 14 has around 4-5 hours of battery life. All manufacturers lie about battery life, including Apple. They massively inflate figures. Well, most PCs have removable battery so that's a serious advantage.

Actually the Envy is 14 hours with extended, 8 hours normal. Why do macs have such a better battery life than PC?
